Blue Monday: a reason to send flowers, without the myth
January can feel like a long stretch between celebrations and spring. A small gesture during that quieter period can be welcome: a message, a visit, or flowers chosen for someone who was not expecting them.
What is Blue Monday?
The name is commonly attached to the third Monday in January. It originated as a publicity idea, rather than a scientifically established “saddest day of the year”. The Mental Health Foundation explains the myth. Everyone's circumstances are different, and a calendar date cannot tell us how someone feels.
Why give flowers in winter?
Flowers offer colour, texture and a visible reminder that someone thought of you. That is enough reason to send them. There is no need to promise that a bouquet will change someone's health or solve a difficult period.
A bright arrangement can suit a friend who loves colour; a quieter palette might feel more at home on a colleague's desk. Choosing for the person makes the gesture more personal than choosing only for a named occasion.
Which flowers suit January?
Seasonal choices may include tulips and ranunculus, depending on availability. A few carefully chosen stems can make an expressive arrangement without needing the largest bouquet. If you have a colour in mind, tell us what matters most and we can discuss what is available.

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to wait for Blue Monday?
No. Flowers can be a thoughtful surprise on any available delivery day.
What should I write on the card?
Something simple and true: “Thinking of you”, “Thank you for being there”, or a few words that only the recipient will recognise.
