Spring: a day to notice flowers

As March brings longer days and changing gardens, it becomes easier to notice flowers again. You do not need a national celebration or a date on the calendar to make room for them at home.

Spring is a transition, not a switch

Dates around 21 March are often used to celebrate the season, but the astronomical equinox does not fall on one fixed date every year. Flowering has its own variations too, influenced by weather and growing conditions.

Rather than treating a “flower day” as a rule, take it as an invitation: look closely at what has changed, choose a colour you have missed or send a small gesture to someone you have been meaning to contact.

Flowers associated with spring

Tulips, anemones and ranunculus offer very different shapes, from a clean cup to layered petals and a contrasting dark centre. Freesias bring their own character and fragrance. Flowering branches can add height and a looser rhythm where available.

Availability depends on the market and the week, not just the season's name. A flexible colour palette often leaves more room to work with the freshest suitable flowers.

A gift without a big occasion

A spring bouquet can say thank you, welcome someone home or make an ordinary meal feel more considered. The best size is one the recipient can enjoy comfortably, with a suitable vase and somewhere to put it.

For your own home, changing the vase or rearranging stems as they open can be part of the pleasure. Start with our care guide to help the arrangement settle well.

Frequently asked questions

Are seasonal flowers necessarily cheaper?

No. Price also reflects the flower, quality, quantity, preparation and service. Seasonality alone does not guarantee a lower price.

Can I send spring flowers from abroad?

Yes, to an address within the served Florence area and on an available delivery day.
